IELTS Academic is designed for students applying for higher education or professional registration. It assesses whether you're ready to begin studying or training in an English-speaking environment.

IELTS General Training is suitable for those migrating to Australia, Canada, or the UK, or applying for secondary education, training programs, and work experience in an English-speaking environment.

The main differences are in the Reading and Writing sections, while Listening and Speaking are the same for both.

IELTS scores are valid for 2 years from the test date. After this period, most institutions and immigration authorities require you to retake the test to ensure your English proficiency is current.

There is no limit to how many times you can take IELTS. You can take the test as frequently as you need. However, we recommend proper preparation between attempts to improve your score.

A good IELTS score depends on your purpose:

  • Band 6.0-6.5: Minimum for most undergraduate programs
  • Band 7.0: Required for most postgraduate programs
  • Band 7.5+: Top universities and competitive programs
  • Band 6.0: General immigration requirements

Preparation time varies based on your current English level and target score:

  • 4-6 weeks: If you're already at intermediate level (Band 5.5-6.0)
  • 8-12 weeks: If you need significant improvement (Band 4.5-5.0)
  • 3+ months: For beginners or those aiming for Band 7.5+

Our 6-week intensive program is designed to help students achieve Band 7+.

IELTS is accepted in over 140 countries including:

  • United Kingdom
  • United States
  • Canada
  • Australia
  • New Zealand
  • Ireland
  • European countries
  • Asian countries

Total Test Duration: 2 hours 45 minutes

  • Listening: 30 minutes + 10 minutes transfer time
  • Reading: 60 minutes
  • Writing: 60 minutes
  • Speaking: 11-14 minutes

Listening, Reading, and Writing are completed on the same day. Speaking may be on the same day or up to 7 days before/after.

IELTS uses a 9-band scoring system:

  • Band 9: Expert user
  • Band 8: Very good user
  • Band 7: Good user
  • Band 6: Competent user
  • Band 5: Modest user
  • Band 4: Limited user
  • Band 3: Extremely limited user
  • Band 2: Intermittent user
  • Band 1: Non-user

Your overall band score is the average of your four module scores.

For the Listening and Reading sections, you must use a pencil. For the Writing section, you can choose between pen or pencil. We recommend using a pencil for easier corrections.
